Located in the state of Queensland, Gold Coast is a city in the south of Australia. It is 66 km south of Brisbane and just north of the state’s border with New South Wales. Before European settlement, the area was inhabited by the Yugambeh people. This settlement was named after them, and the Gold Coast is also known as ‘Gold Coaster’.
The Gold Coast is represented by 11 members in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. These seats include Broadwater, Coomera, Currumbin, Gaven, Mermaid Beach, and Mudgeeraba. In the House of Representatives, the area is split into five divisions, including the Gold Coast and Southeast Queensland.
Public transport is well-served in the region. Go cards can be used to get around the city. The climate is temperate, with 300 sunny days a year. However, the hinterland areas are likely to have cooler weather than the beaches. Hence, it is a good idea to bring a sweater or light jacket if you are planning to spend time in the sun. But keep in mind that the climate in the Gold Coast is not as tropical as that in Sydney or Brisbane.
The state is situated between two major Australian landform zones: the Eastern Uplands and the Central Sedimentary Lowlands. The eastern part of the state receives most rainfall, while the central interior receives a relatively cool climate. However, the northern part of the state is vulnerable to tropical cyclones, which are highly unpredictable.
The state is home to the capital city of Brisbane. It is also home to several other major cities, including Townsville and the Gold Coast. The state has a sub tropical to tropical climate and thousands of kilometers of coastline. Many of these beaches are still relatively unspoiled and unpopulated. The city is located on the southeastern coast.
The local government of the city is governed by the City of Gold Coast, which has 14 elected councillors who represent each division of the city. The current mayor is businessman Tom Tate. Other former mayors include Gary Baildon, Lex Bell, and Ron Clake. The City of Gold Coast was also shaped by the efforts of Sir Bruce Small, who was responsible for developing canal estates.
The region was originally inhabited by Australian Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders around 40,000 years ago. During this time, the area was known as New South Wales. During the first two decades of the nineteenth century, the state was a frontline for the Australian and U.S. forces. This led to the enlistment of tens of thousands of Queenslanders. However, this wasn’t the only reason for the region to be named New South Wales.
The region has a varied coastline. It has sandy beaches, lagoons, estuaries, and wetlands. It also has scattered nearshore islands. It is home to a large number of residential developments and residential canals. The region’s coastline is also characterized by bold headlands and expansive vegetated dunelands.
